Information about the setting

A C A Pre-School Playgroup opened in 1978 and registered in 2000. It is a community playgroup managed by the Alton Community Association (ACA), which is a registered charity.

It operates from one room within the Alton Community Centre, in the town centre of Alton in Hampshire. The playgroup serves the local area. The playgroup is open each weekday during term time only.

Sessions are from 9.15am to 12.15pm, with additional sessions as the academic year progresses.

All children have sole access to the garden area during opening times. The playgroup is registered on the Early Years Register and the voluntary and compulsory parts of the Childcare Register. There are curre...ntly 17 early years children on roll who attend for a variety of sessions.

The playgroup provides funded early education for two-, three- and four-year-olds. The playgroup supports children with special educational needs and/or disabilities and children who learn English as an additional language. There are seven part-time members of staff.

Of these, six hold appropriate early years qualifications at levels 2, 3, and 4. One member of staff holds Qualified Teacher Status. What the setting needs to do to improve further To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should: enhance further the opportunities children have to see words and symbols in their home language to support their communication and language development.
