What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children are excited to attend the out-of-school club after their school day. They are happy, relaxed and comfortable at the club.

Staff encourage children to use their good manners. Children respond and say 'excuse me', 'please' and 'thank you'. Staff praise children's good behaviour and achievements.

They respond quickly when children need them. This helps children to feel secure, valued and listened to. Staff are successful at promoting children's physical and emotional well-being.

They organise the environment well and provide a wide range of stimulating resources which are tailored to meet the ages and needs ...of each child. There are many opportunities for children to play inside and outside. Children particularly enjoy being physically active outdoors.

They practise running and balancing. Younger children learn the fundamentals of basketball and older children play netball. Staff help children to develop an awareness of personal hygiene and good independence skills.

Children follow rules and routines well. During the COVID-19 pandemic, staff have put measures in place, which include parents not entering the setting. Despite this, parents share that they feel the setting communicates with them well and that they are happy with the information they receive.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Staff are friendly and caring. They have an effective key-person system for younger children. This helps children to develop trusting relationships and secure bonds with staff.

Children's emotional well-being is supported effectively.Children are good communicators. They are confident to interact with unfamiliar people.

Children talk to the inspector and describe their time at the club as 'fun'. They like the staff and describe them as 'kind' and 'nice to talk to'. Children have nothing negative to say about the club.

They look forward to attending the club after a long day of learning at school.Staff provide opportunities for children to develop the skills that they are learning at school. When listening to a story, children use a wide range of vocabulary to express their thoughts.

Children display good concentration and proudly share their creative achievements with others. Staff give children appropriate praise for their effort.Staff are good role models who have high expectations of all children.

Older children take great pride in looking after those who are younger. Children of all ages play cooperatively, and this helps to create a family feel in the setting. They thoroughly enjoy their time at the club and demonstrate a strong sense of security and confidence.

Children's behaviour is very good.Children have many opportunities to develop their physical skills in the extremely well-resourced outdoor space. Staff supervise them meticulously and provide appropriate support, when needed.

Staff offer children a range of healthy snacks, such as fruit and wraps, which take account of children's special dietary requirements and allergies. Children come together as a group for snack time. They show good skills as they use simple utensils to serve themselves.

Staff encourage good hygiene procedures. As a result, children learn why it is important to wash their hands regularly.Staff comment that they are happy and feel supported in their roles.

However, the manager has not embedded procedures to supervise staff and provide constructive feedback about the quality of their practice, to extend their professional development further.Partnerships with parents are effective. Before children start at the club, the manager gathers information about their individual needs from parents and teachers at the school.

Staff collect information from parents to help them to understand and meet children's needs effectively. During daily feedback, staff pass on relevant messages to parents, which helps children to receive consistency in care. Parents speak very positively about the club and the activities staff provide.

The manager uses self-evaluation well to reflect on the club's strengths and weaknesses. He includes the views of staff, parents and children in this process.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

The manager and staff know the signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect, and know what action to take if they have concerns about a child. Staff have an understanding of broader safeguarding issues, including the 'Prevent' duty and county lines. Managers follow robust recruitment and induction procedures to ensure the suitability of all staff.

Staff complete comprehensive risk assessments and safety checks for all areas used by the club, including outdoors, to identify and remove any hazards. Children play in a secure and safe environment. Staff are vigilant in checking who picks children up at the end of the session.
