What is it like to attend this early years setting?

The provision requires improvement Children are eager to get through the door and play when they arrive.

They are happy and secure. Children are well behaved and listen to staff, following instructions. Children enjoy registration time and join in with staff who offer support and are kind to them.

However, the environment is in poor condition because of wear and a lack of care. Staff organise resources in the small space available but some are dirty and cluttered.Children listen to stories and respond well.

This helps to support children's language and social skills. Children who speak more than one language gain the skills to speak English quickl...y. As a result, this helps support them to communicate with each other and staff and gain the skills they need for their eventual move to school.

Staff plan for the curriculum. However, they do not always consider how to implement the curriculum effectively. For example, they offer resources to children to play with which do not help them to learn or gain the skills they intend.

For instance, staff offer children scissors to use with card that is too hard and difficult for them to cut through. As a result, children try, fail and give up.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Staff support children with additional needs well.

They work with external agencies and follow suggested activities to support children to progress further.Partnerships with parents are successful. Parents speak highly of staff and are happy with the relationships staff have with their children.

The provider shows a lack of understanding about the requirements for registration. This has resulted in her having the wrong public liability insurance and a lack of knowledge of what she needs to notify Ofsted about.Children enjoy physical play.

They climb the large apparatus unaided and take safe risks as they play outside. They take part in action songs, using their whole bodies. They move freely around the playroom and outdoors, developing speed and coordination.

Staff support children during toileting routines and attend to nappy changing to meet children's care needs. Children are encouraged to wash their hands to help them understand the importance of hygiene.Children are encouraged to use chalks to make marks to help develop their physical skills and represent their own ideas and thoughts.

Children enjoy self-registration. They attach their coats and belongings to the peg displaying their photo, which helps them feel a sense of belonging.Staff encourage children to describe the weather outside and make connections with the date and year.

This supports children's critical-thinking and language skills.Staff support children to develop an understanding of each other and what makes them the same and different. Staff speak the many languages children speak, which helps them to settle and feel secure.

Staff remind children about behaviour rules at the start of the day. Children respond with the reason they need to be kind to each other, which helps them have respect for each other.Leaders carry out regular supervision meetings with staff to discuss any concerns and progress.

Staff are offered training courses to develop their childcare practice.Leaders have begun working with the local authority to help improve and address any weaknesses. There have been changes to the staff team.

It is a new team working on new ideas with support and guidance from external agencies. This has helped to raise the standard of care and education. However, it is still working on developing as a team and improving practice.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Staff have attended training to help improve any gaps in their knowledge and understanding of safeguarding policy and procedure. They understand the possible signs of abuse or harm, and they know who to report their concerns to.

Staff know about whistle-blowing procedures and who to refer any concerns to outside of the nursery.
