What is it like to attend this early years setting?
The provision is good
Children are happy, safe and secure, and thrive in this highly welcoming and nurturing environment. Staff have high expectations for all children, and are skilled at working closely with parents to help children settle with ease and to meet their personal needs.
Strong emphasis is placed on children's emotional security and overall well-being. Staff frequently give children praise, encouragement and recognition for their efforts and achievements. As a result, children behave very well and have good self-esteem.
Children are confident speakers and inquisitive learners. For instance, they delight in bringing in different... books and resources from home, and talking about their favourite characters and stories. Staff skilfully question children and effectively extend and challenge their learning as they participate in discussions and during play.
Children also have fun mixing colours when painting, exploring play dough and a tea set, and playing in sand where they consistently express their ideas and intentions with confidence. Children have excellent opportunities to draw and write, and many independently write their name with skill and accuracy. Overall, children show good levels of engagement.
However, at times, opportunities to maximise their concentration skills are compromised due to the way some activities are organised, and the noise level rises. Despite this, children show positive attitudes towards learning and enjoy their time in the nursery.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Children benefit from a rich, enjoyable and well-planned programme of activities.
Staff are extremely experienced and knowledgeable, and there is good focus on different learning experiences with strong educational value. This is apparent when children participate in drama and storytelling sessions, and music and movement to develop their imagination and creativity.Children are encouraged to be active and lead healthy lifestyles.
This is evident when they are encouraged to eat nutritious snacks, frequently visit the nearby park and participate in weekly sports sessions to develop their balance and coordination.Families are warmly welcomed, and receive an overview of the pre-school's values and aims. In addition, staff and parents complete initial assessments together to establish good partnerships and to provide consistency for children's future learning.
Staff know children extremely well and have good bonds with them.Parents are highly complimentary about the pre-school. They value its excellent local reputation and express that they find the staff very caring.
They also appreciate the community atmosphere and excellent communication about their children's learning and development.Children have good opportunities to go on local outings. For instance, they frequently go on nature trails or to feed the ducks in the local park.
They enjoy visiting shops and the train station. This supports their growing knowledge and understanding of the world around them.Partnership working with other professionals is well established, and this helps staff to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) very well.
Additionally, the pre-school has good links with local schools, and supports children's move to school effectively.Children show good motivation and interest in the different activities, helping them develop a love of learning. On occasion, the organisation of some activities means that some children's ability to concentrate is not as high as it could be, and the noise level can rise.
Staff are highly valued at the pre-school and they work extremely well together as a team. They show good commitment to keeping their skills and knowledge up to date and regularly attend training and have professional discussions. Although staff regularly discuss different aspects of their practice, opportunities for coaching and monitoring individual staff members' personal performance could be enhanced further, to strengthen a culture of striving for the highest possible level of teaching and outcomes for children.
Children have excellent opportunities to make independent choices about their learning. There is a very good balance between child-initiated and adult-led activities. Staff approach children's play with enthusiasm, and make learning extremely fun.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Staff are vigilant about children's safety and well-being. They all know the indicators that may suggest a child may be at risk of harm or neglect.
Staff demonstrate a clear understanding of how to obtain additional help from other professionals to safeguard children. Recruitment processes are rigorous to ensure staff are suitable for their roles. Daily risk assessments and environment checks are carried out to minimise any hazards or accidents, and to ensure the pre-school is safe and secure.
Children are well supported to learn about keeping themselves safe. For instance, they learn about road safety and the importance of staying safe on outings.
What does the setting need to do to improve?
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should: review the organisation of some activities to enhance children's opportunities to engage and learn as well as they can strengthen systems already in place to build on individual staff coaching to enhance their effectiveness and teaching to the highest level.
We recommend using Locrating on a computer for the best experience
Locating works best on a computer, as the larger screen area allows for easier viewing of information.
Ofsted report cards
In order to support Ofsted's new 'report card' inspections, we have made some changes to how
schools are coloured on the map and how inspection results are displayed in schools popups. You can find out more here:
