What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision does not meet requirements The provider has not ensured that staff have a secure understanding of the safeguarding policies and the procedures to follow to report concerns to the relevant local authority safeguarding partners. They do not have a secure knowledge of the designated safeguarding lead (DSL). Although staff supervision is in place, it is not effective enough to make sure staff fully understand their safeguarding responsibilities.

Despite these weaknesses, children are happy and have good relationships with each other and staff. They enjoy the games staff provide for them, chatting and laughing with each other and staff. The key strength o...f this provision is the amount of time children spend outside, benefitting from lots of fresh air and exercise.

Staff plan activities that children may not experience at home, such as cricket. Children are excited to join in. They cooperate well and listen to staff and each other.

Children show respect for each other and demonstrate positive behaviour. For example, they follow the boundaries that staff set for them well. Younger children happily participate and enjoy being with the older children.

Staff ensure all children are included and understand the rules of the games. Children have lots of fun as they play and join in activities.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Staff complete safeguarding training and have regular supervision meetings.

However, these are not effective as the provider does not ensure staff understand what they have learned from their training. Hence, staff are not confident in their knowledge of safeguarding. The provider does not ensure staff have a clear understanding of the safeguarding policy and procedure and who to report concerns to.

For example, staff are unsure who to speak to if they are concerned a child might be involved in activities such as county lines, or how to report an allegation or whistle blow. This does not promote children's safety as well as possible.Staff's supervision of children is effective.

They ensure children are involved in games together and are always aware of where children are. Staff enforce clear rules and check to ensure children understand these. Children listen well and are respectful of each other and staff.

They are all excited to participate in the activities provided.Staff ensure the areas used by the club are safe. Ongoing risk assessments are completed to ensure all activities, resources and equipment are safe and suitable for children.

This takes into consideration children's ages, abilities and individual needs. The provider ensures that records are accessible and available for inspection. This includes records relating to the identity checks and vetting processes that have been completed for staff and evidence regarding paediatric first-aid training.

There is a good focus on children's physical health and well-being. Staff plan many activities to keep children active. Children sit together while they eat the snacks that parents provide for them.

Parents are informed that these must be healthy and staff monitor this. Children are reminded to wash their hands before eating and after using the toilet, which helps support healthy habits.Children enjoy team activities, such as cricket.

They eagerly join in and cheer on their team. Staff ensure each child has a go. They demonstrate to them how to hold the bat correctly and how to bowl the ball using underarm.

Children count the points they have as a team. Staff explain to them the terminology of 'runs' and ask them at the end of the game to recall what they have learned.Younger children are independent and confident.

Older children are mindful of them and give them support when needed. For example, they remind them where they should stand and where to throw the ball. All children enjoy their time at the club.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective. There is not an open and positive culture around safeguarding that puts children's interests first.
