It is not yet outstanding because: Although staff work with the host school which all children attend, this partnership is not yet embedded well enough, so that children's prior learning and experiences can be fully complemented. Although practice is consistently good, there is not a sharp enough focus on raising the quality of the provision to the next level. Inspection activities The inspector observed activities in the club, looked at the resources available to children and talked with staff and children at appropriate times. The inspector held a meeting with the manager and looked at records, including evidence of staff suitability, training records and some policies and procedures. The inspector spoke to children and parents during the inspection and took account of their views.

The inspector discussed the club's self-evaluation with the manager and the plans for improvement. Inspector Ron Goldsmith Inspection findings Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Staff are well qualified and experienced.

They are kept up to date with the local authority's procedures to help keep children safe. Staff are confident in recognising the possible signs of abuse and neglect, and know the procedures to follow if they have any concerns. Comprehensive risk assessments, policies and procedures help to ensure that the toys, premises and equipment are safe and suitable for use.

Staff are qualified in first aid to provide treatment in the event of an accident or incident. Vetting procedures are rigorous, in order to help ensure that all staff working with children are suitable. Staff reflect on the effectiveness of the club to identify how they can improve.

Parents spoken to on the day of the inspection comment that staff are friendly, approachable and professional. They say that staff know the children very well. Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good Staff provide a range of experiences and routines to interest and involve children.

They have good playwork skills and sensitively encourage all children to be involved. Children develop good social skills and make choices as they play. They concentrate for long periods and use writing tools with good control.

All children are confident to share their views and opinions, and ask for help when needed. Adult-led activities promote a range of skills and encourage children to be creative and express themselves using different media. For example, children use art and craft materials confidently as they carefully create structures with pasta and marshmallows.

Children help each other to solve problems and find solutions. Staff join in with children's play and interact positively with them. They consistently ask a range of good quality questions to prompt children's thinking skills.

Resources are well organised and accessible to children so that they can extend their own interests. Staff ensure they are well informed about pupils who have special educational needs or disabilities. This helps them to ensure all children receive the support they need.

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good Staff work closely with parents when children start in the club to help them settle well. The key-person system is effective and children have warm relationships with all staff. For example, when some children leave they give staff an affectionate hug.
