Summary of key findings for parents

This provision is good Staff understand how children learn and develop. They observe children to find out what they can do, and use this information to extend their learning effectively, through carefully planned activities. Partnerships with parents are good.

Regular discussions and meetings with parents ensure that they are kept well informed of the progress that their children make. This helps to provide continuity in children's care and learning. Children make good progress from their starting points.

They are happy, settled and confident to make independent choices in their play. Staff encourage children's language and communication skills well. Children are confide...nt in speaking in groups and listen attentively at what others have to say.

Children are polite and show respect for others. Staff act as good role models and give children gentle guidance and support. For example, they regularly praise children for sitting nicely and waiting their turn during activities.

This helps to reinforce their positive behaviour. It is not yet outstanding because: Staff appraisal and supervision are not always effective in identifying gaps in some of the staff knowledge and understanding. During some small-group activities, staff do not always encourage all of the children to become fully involved.
